Artistic Workshops

Learning Designers have the opportunity to learn from and work with some of the leading artists in the area.  Through field placements, participants will be able to select the type of workshop they want to experience.  Offerings include: pottery studios, carpentry workshops, painting studios, and more.  By working alongside artists during the creative process, and participating in it themselves, Learning Designers will gain a unique perspective on the process of creating.  Learning Designers are required to reflect on their experience in the workshop space by completing a presentation of learning.  These presentations can range from a gallery event to formal paper. Work study is offered to students who qualify.

Design Studios

Design thinking and process is a core value of the Learning Designer Program.  We strive to provide participants opportunities where they can explore these topics with experts in the field.  Similar to our artistic workshop offerings, our placement team works to match participants with a design studio that speaks to their interests.  Offerings include: interior design studios, architecture studios, fashion design studios, graphic design studios, and more. Our participants have found time in design studios to be a powerful way of learning firsthand how to enhance content through design. Learning Designers are required to reflect on their experiences in the design studio by completing a presentation of learning.  These presentations can range from a formal paper to oral presentation.  Work study is offered to students who qualify.

Organizations & Companies

There are many organizations and companies in the area focused on improving education.  We require our participants to complete one field placement with these teams to see how the design process is applied in education.  Depending on their interests, participants can complete this field placement in non-profits or for-profits. Offerings may includes places like: MIT Media Lab's Lifelong Kindergarten group, The Possible Project, LearnLaunch, and more. Learning Designers are required to reflect on their experiences in the organization or company by completing a presentation of learning.  These presentations can range from a formal paper to oral presentation.  Work study is offered to students who qualify.

Workshops & Studios

In the Learning Designer Program we believe in making, creating, and turning knowledge into action.  Participants in the Learning Designer Program are given multiple opportunities throughout their time to develop technical and project-based skills outside of a school environment.  Every effort is made to match participants with opportunities that fit their own interests.
