Application: Essays and Video

The first step in the admissions process includes completing our online application by your desired fall or winter deadline.  In the application candidates are asked to complete 3 essays, provide official transcripts, an example from portfolio work, and 3 letters of recommendation. Additionally, applicants are asked to submit a statement of learning. We encourage applicants to submit their statements in any form they wish- paper, video, presentation, Scratch project, etc. Applications are then reviewed by a committee and selected finalists will receive an invitation to participate in an individual interview.

Individual Interview

In the second step of the admissions processs  applicants complete a one hour long interview with a few members of the admissions committee.  We prefer interviews to happen in person, but we do not penalize any candidates who need to complete the interview remotely.  The individual interview allows both the candidate and the admissions committee to get to know the each other better.  The interview consists of questions from the committee, an activity, and plenty of time for the applicant to ask questions, too. The committe will notify applicants invited to the selction event within a week of the interview.

Selection Event: Group Interview

The selection event is the final stage of the admissions process.  The day-long event is full with group activities, design challenges, mini-lessons, content-area assessments, and more.   Our hope is to give candidates a sense of what a day in the life of a Learning Designer will feel like. Applicants will receive notification regarding the status of their canidacy within two weeks following the event.  Our selection event is a required component of the Learning Designer Program admissions process and, if invited, finalists must attend in order to continue in the process. We provide financial supports to any candidate for whom the cost of attending may prove to be a barrier.

Admissions Process

The Learning Designer Program seeks to attract candidates who are committed to being lifelong learners and are passionate about designing optimal learning environments for all.  Our program is devoted to being there for our Learning Designers along every step of the way - during their two-years onsite and beyond.  The duration of the three-stage admissions process is about two months for potential candidates advancing through all rounds.  Candidates can apply during the fall or winter application deadlines.
