ETIPS

Embedded within pedagogical and learning theory coursework, the eTIPs cases will provide Learning Designers with simulated context to apply and practice concepts.

ETIPS cases provide students with varied and multiple opportunities to practice instructional decision-making in realistic contexts. They are specifically designed to apply recognized principles of effective teaching and professional standards in four curricular areas: technology integration, urban teaching issues, digital equity, and mentoring. Cases can be set in elementary, middle schools, or high schools and in rural, suburban, or urban settings. (www.etips.info)

Collaborative Lesson Study Cycles

Within subject-area course work, Learning Designer participants will work with their peers in collaborative lesson study cycles to refine and reflect on their practice.

Collaborative Lesson Study is a professional development strategy for teachers, designed with the goal of improving classroom efficiency. It centers around teachers collaboratively planning, teaching, observing, refining, and reflecting on student outcomes. A unique outcome of the process is a deeper understanding of the content that the lesson delivers. (www.sdsa.org)

Teach Live & SimSchool

Learning Designers will have unlimited access  to lab space with classroom simulation tools.

TeachLivEâ„¢ is a mixed-reality classroom with simulated students where participants can interact with students and review previous work, present new content to students and provide scaffolding or guided practice in a variety of content areas, and monitor students while they work independently. (www.teachlive.org)

SimSchool is a classroom simulator that supports the rapid accumulation of a teacher's experience in analyzing student differences, adapting instruction to individual learner needs, gathering data about the impacts of instruction, and seeing the results of their teaching. (www.simschool.org)

We aim to harness technology and collaborative environments to provide participants with opportunities to develop their pedagogical practice in safe environemnts with no risk to real students.
